In Broken SwordEdit
The Accordion itself is a musical instrument disguised as an explosive. The Clown uses the Accordion Bomb to blow up the Café and in turn it kills who is later revealed to be part of the Templar Conspiracy, an old man named Plantard. In turn Khan steals Plantard's briefcase and runs into the alleyway across from the Café before the bomb blows.
In the midst of the explosion George Stobbart is enjoying his vacation when he experiences the events unfold. The Clown entering the Café with the Accordion and then running back out moments later with the briefcase. Soon following George is thrown into the air by the explosion. This chain of events is what prompts George to begin his very first adventure.
Conversation with Rosso in Cafe
Rosso: "Did you see anyone else in the Cafe?"
George: "Yeah, there was a guy dressed as a clown. He was carrying an Accordion".
Rosso: "An Accordion?!" Bon, the picture is forming in my mind. And it is not a pretty one. Is the girl alright Moue?"
Moue: "She'll live. She confirms the American's statement. A clown with an Accordion, no doubt an elaborate and eccentric disguise".
Rosso: "Very well".
Conversation with Chantelle the Waitress
George: "Do you remember what happened when the clown entered?"
Chantelle: "I remember that horrible tune he played alright! It was like a funeral dirge".
George: "I never liked accordion music either.
George mentions when talking to the waitress that he doesn't like accordion music.
The Accordion is a box shaped instrument of the bellows-driven free-reed aerophone family, sometimes colloquially referred to as a squeezebox. A person who plays the accordion is called an accordionist.
The instrument is played by compressing or expanding the bellows whilst pressing buttons or keys, causing valves, called pallets, to open, which allow air to flow across strips of brass or steel, called reeds, that vibrate to produce sound inside the body.
