Cardinal Gianelli, is a high-level religious figure who becomes embroiled with the "Angel of Death Conspiracy".

He betrayed the Order of St. Michael by forbidding them to use the Ark. Gianelli then tries to sabotage Monsignor Devlin and Father Gregor by stealing the manuscript, getting shot in the process by Father Gregor.
